Wynand and Lindi Delport both knew that they we’re called for ministry even before they met each other. Wynand had been playing in churches since the age of 13. The two of them met at church at the age of 16, fell in love, and decided to get married a few years later. The passion they shared for the Lord and music was obvious. So eight years ago they started practicing and three years ago, Daypoem was born. Next God provided the resources for them to record their début album, “Surviving Humanity”.
DayPoem is a short, creative interpretation of “A prayer a day is a poem unto God.” They have been performing and leading worship for a long time now. Their main goal is to win souls for the kingdom of heaven and they are doing it by utilizing the power of music. This married couple forms the core of the band (of four). They are both well qualified in their fields. Wynand studied Jazz for three years while Lindi studied musical theatre and drama. When performing they use session musicians to form the rest of the group.
Wynand is currently the songwriter for Daypoem. He is extremely musical and a genius when it comes to putting lyrics out there that mean something practical to a young person looking for God, truth and help in a confusing world. When going to a Daypoem gig or listening to their CD, you’ll be in for an anointed life changing experience. When they get on stage they don’t want to just do a show, they want people to interact and to experience God. The whole surviving humanity idea is getting people introduced to Jesus, as He is the only person who can save you from humanity. In stead of focusing on the nerves etc. when they are on stage, they focus on God and worship Him with everything in them. The band is very bold and very straight forward about their messianic message – they don’t beat around the bush and for the rest they rely on God. They realise all too well that when the Holy Spirit is free to work, they do not have to do anything, so they submit to Him.
Even the CD was dedicated in this way – their prayer was that people would listen to it and experience the anointing that it carried. They truly believe that people's lives can be changed by just popping the CD into the CD player in the car and listening. Lindi: "We wanted the standard to be exceptionally high, so that we have the right to grab their attention, which gives us the right to preach the gospel. To get there takes dedication, practice… working at it without end, bettering your self in every possible way.”
Even in their Christian walk these two challenge each other at ground level. Wynand not only gives her truth, he can understand her fears and doubts on a practical and an emotional level, and visa versa. If he is down, she can also be there for him to tell him; "Pull yourself together... what's up with this?" so they can get back to making His music.
