This band's name had a humble beginning:
Jayde; "We were all in England staying in one small apartment, and Rob came home and said, 'I've got the name for the band, "Singletrack." It just stuck. I came up with a meaning that seems to make sense for who we are as a band. Matt 7 vs. 3,14 "..but small is the gate and narrow the road (Singletrack) that leads to life, and only a few find it." That's what we are about; walking on that strait and narrow way helping each other along and being a example in music and in living to those around us of what it is to walk in Christ's ways, and hopefully influencing them to do the same."
The four of them started playing together when they were still at school, about 5 years ago. They saw the raw talent in each other and basically stumbled across the band. Jayde: "The original drummer was a girl and the band then was called "one third." Then Craig, our former drummer, joined us and that's when the Singletrack really got going. Recently Craig decided to get married and head overseas to start a real job, which was very sad for us, but we all know it's God's will. And so Kenneth, who was formally our sound man, is now the new drummer. He rocks!"
This is a group of very talented musicians, and it is also not up to one of them to produce the songs for the band. Jayde: "Well, that is very interesting. I always have an idea when it comes to the song I'm writing. Then I bring it to the band. We dissect the whole song and recreate it with a part of each member's thoughts towards the song. It therefore creates an interesting collage of sound, which is uniquely deemed Singletrack. We love the process. The words don't really change; the meaning of the song still has to be there."
When it comes to influences you can hear, Jayde is quick to note that they all listen to different bands including Switchfoot, Third day, Tree63, Blink182, Matchbox20 and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. And taking a listen to their music, you get a glimpse of some quirky Relient K as well…
Now the songs:
The general message of the album is about faith, hope and life – and how focusing on Christ puts it all into perspective.
Jayde: "The one song, Perfect Words, is about fear and faith. Faith is so easy if we just listen to His words. Listening to Christ literally turns our fear to faith. Remember, it is impossible to please Him without faith. The song is really about our faith journey."
And the first radio single Blue Eyes?
Jayde: "There are so many people who live this song out in their lives. Living from high to high and never really sitting down to realize why they were put on this planet. This song is to motivate the listener to catch a wake up before it's too late."
Singletrack also has a very real vision for Africa.
Their message to the continent: "Africa arise. Don't be afraid at the way everything seems to be crumbling around you. Come to the Rock, the solid foundation that will not crack. Don't be afraid. Don't run away. The time to be bold is now!"
And this message could just as well have been for any country in the world… couldn't it?
